My name is Lisa M Varney, and these are my memories and stories about my father; Bill Varney, his career and our time together. I encourage any of his friends or family to add stories to this blog.

Where are my stories?
I need stories people. I need to keep Billy entertained!!!!! Give me your best stories.
I remember that he had a little tiny yellow Honda car, the first ones they came out with, a civic, I think. He would drive up to the dub stage and pull this tiny car into a space. Then he would get out. Here was this big, tall man easily coming out of this tiny car. I think he loved that car. Also, when we were dubbing Ordinary People with Robert Redford directing, Mary Tyler Moore’s character was missing a vocal sound that Redford wanted. Bill said he would take care of it. He set up a microphone on the stage. He told me to stand in front of it and be Mary Tyler Moore’s voice at the right spot. I looked at him like he was crazy because Redford was talking a blue streak on the phone and didn’t look like he was going to stop anytime soon. Bill said “Just be ready and do it when the scene comes up.” So the scene comes up and I opened my mouth and at that same exact moment, Bill deftly and swiftly moved the pot up and down so fast, I didn’t think he actually recorded my voice. He did it also in between Redford’s words! He then played the scene back for Redford with my voice in it and Redford paused in his conversation long enough to hear the vocal, gave his “thumbs up” and went back to talking. Redford didn’t even know that we had recorded the vocal live! Bill was clever about stuff like that. He knew how to fix problems and did it without drawing attention to the fact that there were problems!
